Lion Server, Kerberos, and Lion and Ubuntu Clients

Vimia's infrastructure has been based on Ubuntu 9.04 server VMs running under Xen. The clients are nearly all Mac OS X machines. Retiring one of those Mac OS X clients has freed up a machine on which to try Mac OS X Server, which in Version 10.7 (Lion) is available for only CHF 48.00 from the Mac App Store.

The Age of the Cloud, or the Internet of Serfs

Apple's announcement today of iCloud is a milestone in the progress of cloud computing into the mainstream. Cloud computing has been around for some time now, but this is the first time that it has become a fundament of a major operating system (Mac OS X/iOS5).

Inaccessible Standards...

I am interested in the ISO standard 20022 aka UNIFI (Universal Financial Industry Message Scheme), and one assumes that the people who wrote the standard are interested in making it as widely known as possible. However, if you go to iso.org and search for the standard, you discover that the 5 relevant documents which comprise it cost a total of CHF 588.

Welcome to the new Vimia website!

Today I published the new Vimia website, which I hope will give a clearer view of the activities and services offered by my company, Vimia GmbH, than the older website did. Like the old site, the new one is bilingual (English and German).
